I just wanted to let everyone know that I am opening up two more spaces for 2010.

Also on the way:
1) New Website
2) New "Online Cinema" for client viewing/sharing
3) New Package & Pricing
4) All sorts of amazing stuff!

Sadly, with the introduction of the new website, this blog will be eliminated. It's not really sad for me because I don't keep it updated very often and, to me, it seems way too impersonal... I am actually looking forward to getting rid of it!

As a side note, keep your eyes out for an upcoming interview in Bride's magazine.

and it sure is lovely!

I am, as you can see, quite poor at keeping fresh posts on my blog. Many changes are coming soon, but in the meantime, here is a quick update for you...

Last year was a fun and amazing year, although it got a bit out of hand near the end of it! I am so grateful and honored to be a part of all my clients' weddings, and there were definitely a few standouts:

I had the honor of filming for the wedding of Jon and Elizabeth - Jon's father is the president of Boeing, China, and they were an incredibly fun and thoughtful family to be around. They had a beautiful wedding over at the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis, but the real focus was on enjoying the presence of friends and family.

Another standout was Wendy and Mike - everything seemed to be working against them at their Newport, RI wedding, including a freak Nor'easter storm that blasted their waterfront venue all day long... as it turned out, good weather wasn't necessary at all for everyone to enjoy themselves and Wendy and Mike shared a beautiful time with their guests. It was a true pleasure to meet both of their families.

Leah and Jon are the last I will mention... for such soft-spoken people, their love for each other was so easily evident. They had a beautiful wedding in the Hamptons, at the Westhampton Yacht Squadron... the place where they first met and fell in love!

And on a final note, here is a recent feature from Style Me Pretty... as always, thanks for the extremely kind words from the girls over at SMP. Thanks to Jacki and Jaimeson for planning the lovely wedding, and thanks to Regan and Michael for allowing me to share.

Happenings: Moving to Vermont!

Well, we are taking the plunge... moving to a new home up in beautiful Middlebury, Vermont. We simply love it there! We are sad to leave the mountains of Asheville, NC, but we will certainly be back frequently.

We look forward to providing more localized service to Burlington, New York City, Boston, Montreal, Quebec, and much of New England. Of course we will still be providing service elsewhere as well!

Well, the last couple of months have really flown by. It seems like I've been traveling non-stop; a yacht club in the Hamptons... a Shaker village in Kentucky... upstate New York... Burlington, Vermont... Newport, Rhode Island... the ol' Ritz Carlton in Orlando, Florida... the Highlands, North Carolina, and wouldn't you know I actually filmed a couple of local weddings here in Asheville at the Biltmore Estate and at the Homewood. Whew. But wait, there's more...

Anniversary!
Yesterday marked the sixth anniversary of my beautiful wife, Stephanie, and myself. That's right, six years! Although I typically keep my personal life to myself and I can't stand this weird obsession with sharing every detail with everyone in the world online (what's up with that?), I will let you know that we had a fantastic evening of veg-ing out on the couch, watching movies while enjoying some tasty snacks. Now that's what I call an anniversary celebration!

Cinematography
2010 is going to be a little bit different! My film packages will be changing a bit and I will be introducing some new mediums. Trust me... you will like these changes! These packages won't be finalized until December, but feel free to inquire for rough details.

My availability will also be changing for 2010. I will only be accepting 18 weddings. I will be keeping some time to myself to work on my own personal film projects (finally!). I expect to be full for 2010 by the end of January, so don't hesitate to call or email today.

At this time, I only offer photographic work by special request. Feel free to email with any inquiries.

Film Premieres

Well, over the course of the last few months, I've had request after request to view more of my work... specifically full length pieces. So, in response to these requests, and to do something that I probably should have been doing for years now, I will be displaying two full length wedding films in the coming weeks. I'm 99% sure I will be posting them on the site, but there is a minuscule chance that they may be posted here on the blog.

Anyway, I just wanted to give everyone a bit of advanced notice; keep watch of the website for the premiere of these films!

As a side note, I must apologize for my lack of posts over the lasts couple of months... I've been incredibly busy working in St. Louis, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and of course the Biltmore Estate here in good ol' Asheville. Chicago is next on the list!

Jamaica

Well, I just got back from a great trip to Jamaica with the amazing Ryan Joseph. The wedding of Sarah and Scott was held at the Half Moon Bay Resort and it was absolutely beautiful. Aside from some heavy winds and some minor time restrictions, everything went as smoothly as anyone could ask for and the bride and groom had an absolute blast!

I must say, Jamaica is a strange place! It is incredibly beautiful and oh so scary at the same time... every hotel and resort is like a miniature military compound. Oh well, I'm back now and I have just as little tan as I did when I left!

Now I normally don't do this, mostly because it is cheesy, but I received a note from one of our clients recently that was really just awesome. It's always inspiring to hear how much your work is appreciated!

I lost count of the number of women who have come up to me or called telling me they were literally "jealous" (that is the term so many have used in a loving way), of such an amazing wedding film- and that they cried cried cried because it was so amazingly beautiful. One woman called it a fairytale wedding movie. She kept saying how she was glued to the monitor to capture every second and couldn't believe how much it was just like a real movie!

The Semi-Annual Update

Ok, so half a year ago, I thought it would be a good idea to start this blog. I wrote an incredibly witty and humorous post - something about transmitting food over the internet (haha, now that's funny!) - and haven't written another post since. Well, enough time has passed now that I think I can finally post again without it being overshadowed by the impeccable humor of the first post.

So here are a few highlights from what's been going on in the past few months:

1) We have two of our mixed media pieces now featured on the website of our good friend, Parker J Pfister. To check them out, go to www.parkerjphoto.com > in love > with project8.

2) I was able to take a last minute trip up to Chicago to shoot the wedding of Andrew & Ashley with the amazing Jeff & Julia Woods. We're currently working on a piece for their website. Images from the wedding can be seen here. Ashley is the daughter of Mike Dalton, President of Maui Jim Sunglasses. Andrew, coincidentally, was wearing sunglasses before the wedding... or was it a coincidence? Conspiracy anyone?!

3) We've had a lot of really fun and awesome times with clients since the last update, and we'd love to share more with you, but as per our usual policy, we only share work from wedding that have already been made public or work that we have been specifically instructed to share. It has always been important to us to value and respect our clients' privacy. If you're dying to view more of our work, please email us a request and we'll be happy to send you links to some of our material that has been OK'd for public viewing.

4) And finally, Stephanie is due in the middle of October! We're all looking forward to meeting the new baby!

Well, hopefully that will be enough news to keep you satisfied for a while. I'll try to keep myself actively updating on a much more regular basis.

Food and Film :: A Super 8mm Wedding

Here at Portal Films, we believe in two things... good food and good films! It's fairly difficult to distribute food over the internet, so we figured we could at least share this beautiful film piece with you.

This particular wedding was held at a private estate in Kentucky. It was a beautiful day, and the bride and groom were terrific! Now... back to some food...
